Hello lovelies,
Today I wanted to talk about nails! Have you tried out acrylics nails before? Maybe you wear them all the time or have never worn them at all!
In todays post I wanted to share my experience with acrylic nails, how I got on with them, what products were used and how well they lasted.
I got my first set of acrylics done when I was 15 I was going on holiday with my family and I thought it would be fun to try something a little different rather than the usual paint or shellac. I loved the whole experience of getting them done, the lady was lovely and chatty and I was really happy with the end result. My first set of acrylics cost me around ยฃ20 which I think is pretty good. The nails latest just under 2 weeks by this time they were beginning to lift and the sides, bearing in mind I was applying suncream and going in the pool daily for 10 days so I’m sure it had an affect on how long the nails lasted. I went for a coffin shape and they were pretty sort as far as acrylics go because it was my first time having them done. I was really happy with the colour it was a very bright coral which was a bit out of my comfort zone but I was glad I went for it. The nail growth underneath was pretty good although I will say my natural nails felt as though they had been weakened and were a little bendy which i was expecting as I had heard acrylics can do this.
My second experience with acrylics was a little different i was a year older. This time it was the summer holidays and i thought it would be nice to try acrylics out again as i hadn’t had them for a while. The difference this time was that i went to a nail bar. The staff in the particular place i went to were very nice but not very chatty them seemed to talk amongst themselves most of the time which i was completely fine with. This was my first time going to a nail bar and i was pretty impressed with the appearance of the place, it was very clean and sanitary which is what you want. I picked a pink colour which i loved and went for a square nail as it was different to what id had done before. I thought the look of the nails was really good and they did the full set in about 45 minutes compared with my first experience which was about 1.5 hours. I believe part of the reason why they were faster is because the salon was using an electric file which of course is quicker than doing all of the filing by hand. I did think they were a little rough with my nails as the drill did get a little warm but it wasn’t anything the complain about. These nails lasted around 2 weeks also, as i went longer with the length i wasn’t sure if that would effect it but it didn’t seem to. I am unsure of the brand this salon used on my nails but the result was lovely. After having these acrylics on my natural nails were again a bit soft when i took the acrylic off but i filed them down so there wasn’t much chance of them snapping. I paid ยฃ23 for this set acrylics which i think was reasonably priced for a salon and the service they provided. Unfortunately i don’t have picturesย of the first and second time i got acrylics as it was quite a long time ago but i hope the recent ones make up for it!
The next set of acrylics have to be my favourite. I went to a lovely little hairdressers/ beauty salon, i go to this salon quite regularly to get shellac on my nails. They had an offer going for 50% off of any nail treatments, so i jumped at the chance to try out a set of their acrylic nails. Without the discount a full set of acrylic nails would have been ยฃ30 and for the quality of the products i can understand why they charge this amount. This salon is one of the more expensive places to get your nails done but i believe for the service and the products it is worth the little bit more on the price tag. When i came in i was greeted and offered a hot drink which i hadn’t had before in any other place i had been to. Once i’d sat down the lady started a conversation with me and chatted to me throughout the whole time which was great as I’m rather shy these sort of situations can be awkward for me but i was made to feel very comfortable. I went for coffin/ ballerina shaped acrylics this time and the shade from CND shellac called unearthed which as you can see it a taupe/ grey colour that i loved. All of the products used to create these acrylics were by the brand CND, i really do think that this brand is the best for quality and my nail technicians application was great she spent a lot of time making sure i was happy before moving onto the next steps and so forth. These nails lasted me just over two weeks and i had no lifting and there was a little bit of growth at the top of the nail. All of the filing was done with a hand file so it wasn’t too harsh at all and the nail polish she added onto lasted the full two weeks with no chips or any sign of wear.ย
In conclusion i have been happy with every time i have had acrylics done, but some more than others. I really do think that if you pay that little bit extra you can get a better result in the end. With my most previous experience I didn’t experience and brittleness of my nails and they didn’t feel weak at all. In fact they actually felt a lot stronger which i found very bazaar as i went expecting the complete opposite so was very pleasantly surprised!
I really hope you enjoyed this post, it was a little different so let me know if you liked this more of a “story time” sort of post in the comments!ย I’d also love to know your opinion on acrylic nails.
